The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a week-long, social media-driven fundraising campaign that uses the iconic “Little Black Dress” to raise awareness about The Junior League of Tuscaloosa's new community impact of Empowering Women and Young Girls.

Did you know that 7 out of 10 young women do not think they are good enough? There are real and measurable health consequences including eating disorders, bullying, alcohol abuse, early onset of sexual activity and, perhaps, counter-intuitively, obesity. One of the main causes for low self-esteem is illiteracy, another focus of our efforts.

Participants wear one black dress for five consecutive days and are encouraged to harness the power of social media platforms to drive financial support and educate the Tuscaloosa community about self-esteem issues in young women that lead to major issues down the line.

All campaigns can be followed on social media at #TheLBDI.
